Average daily sunspot numbers this week dropped nearly 23 points to 15.6, and geomagnetic indices were quiet. The average daily solar flux was 78.1, but the latest prediction from USAF and NOAA is for rising solar flux values. The September 17-23 projection has solar flux values at 85, 85, 86, 86, 86, 87, and 88, which is well above last week’s average. Solar flux hasn’t been to 88 . . .

Average daily sunspot numbers for the week rose nearly 13 points to 38.3, and average daily solar flux was up over four points at 78.4. On September 2 one new sunspot group emerged, numbered 1105. It joined sunspot groups 1101, 1102 and 1103. On September 4, group 1102 faded away, then 1101 and 1103 vanished on September 6. 1105 went over the western side of the Sun by . . .

Over this past week four new sunspot groups appeared. Group 1101 was already in place since August 24, and 1102 emerged on August 29. On September 1 both new sunspot groups 1103 and 1104 appeared, and on September 2 sunspot group 1105 arrived. Over August 26 to September 2 the daily sunspot numbers were 23, 11, 11, 25, 28, 27, 51, and 52 and over those same eight . . .

As I was writing the bulletin overnight my desktop PC was hit by a drive-by virus that downloaded itself automatically when viewing sunspot images on an infected website. Unable to remove the malware by morning, the bulletin was rewritten on another PC, and some of the topics that were planned had to be skipped for now.
